 About me:

Julien Guillamat began music in France at the age of seven. He studied cello (modern and baroque) and music theory with Evelyne Feuardent, Geneviève Teulière, Yvon Repérent, Gisèle Clément Dumas, Maki Solomos and Yves Marie Pasquet among others at the conservatoires of Montauban, Montpellier and Aix-en-Provence (France).

In 2006 he passed, with good comment, a Master I of musicology on The English Court Masques with Particular Reference to Purcell’s Work at the University of Paul Valéry (Montpellier, France).

Julien first delved into music composition in 2005 at the University of Birmingham (England) where he is now completing a PhD (Philosophical Doctorate) in composition with Professor Jonty Harrison.

As an active member of the Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre (B.E.A.S.T.) he has travelled across Europe. His music has been performed in France and the United Kingdom.

Julien and his cello
His work is largely influenced by the sound of the Pyrenees (the south-west of France) and is generally based on outdoor recordings. However, though his research follows the French tradition of musique concrète, the instrumental world is still very important in his work.
He is collaborating with film, theatre, poetry and dance artists.
Recently, he has composed original music for dance - Double Point : K choreographed by Rosie Kay, and premiered at The Hippodrome during the Birmingham International Dance Festival 08 by the Rosie Kay Dance Company.
